Joseph Nicephore Niepce was born March 7th, 1765. He was best known as a French inventor most noted as one of the inventors of photography and a pioneer in the field. He developed heliography, a technique used to produce the world's oldest surviving photograph in 1825. He began collaborating on improved photographic processes with Louis Daguerre and together they developed the physautotype, a process that used lavender oil.
